Clay Collective Membership Terms & Conditions
MINIMUM DURATION OF MEMBERSHIP
Membership is based on 3 month commitments; we do not offer single month memberships at this time.
ORIENTATION REQUIRED BEFORE MEMBERSHIP BEGINS
All new Clay Collective members are required to schedule and complete a studio orientation with our Studio Clay Lead before beginning membership activities or using the clay studio independently. Orientation covers studio procedures, equipment use, cleanup expectations, clay and glaze policies, firing procedures, storage, and safety. Purchasing a membership does not waive this requirement.
MEMBERSHIP & BILLING
Brush Clubs & Clay Collective memberships are month-to-month and automatically renew until canceled.
PYOP Brush Club is $40/month Standard Clay Membership is $65/month. Premium Clay Membership is $125/month.
Membership fees are non-refundable. Members may cancel at any time by providing at least 7 days' written notice before their next renewal date. Cancellation does not result in a refund or prorated credit for any unused portion of the current membership period.
STUDIO ACCESS
Members may use the studio during posted member hours and regular open studio hours. Membership does not include after-hours or off-hours access.
Current Member-Only Clay Hours are Monday 12–8 PM and Friday 10 AM–2 PM. Regular studio hours are Monday–Saturday 12–8 PM and Sunday 1–6 PM; you can expect to share space and tools during these times.
Clay space may be reserved for classes, parties, workshops, or other studio events, particularly on Saturdays and Sundays. Members will be accommodated as space permits.
Studio equipment and resources—including wheels, tables, slab roller, tools, and glaze areas—are shared and generally available on a first-come, first-served basis. Premium members may reserve up to 4 hours of wheel time per month through their online account.
Access to specific equipment, workspaces, or studio areas may occasionally be limited due to maintenance, classes, events, staffing, safety concerns, or other operational needs.
CLAY & GLAZES
Standard Members may purchase clay for $35 per block.
Premium Members receive up to 25 lbs. of clay per month as part of their membership. Additional clay beyond the monthly allotment may be purchased for $35 per block. Unused monthly clay allotments do not roll over unless otherwise stated by the studio.
Only clay, glazes, and other ceramic materials approved by The Pottery Place may be used in the studio or submitted for firing. Outside clay or glaze may not be used without prior approval. This policy protects studio equipment, kilns, and the work of other artists.
Studio work is generally bisque-fired to Cone 04 and glaze-fired to Cone 6.
FIRING
Standard firing rates are $5 per piece, $35 per half shelf, or $60 per full kiln level. Premium Membership includes the applicable monthly firing credits associated with that membership.
All work submitted for firing must be clearly signed or marked according to studio procedures. Unmarked work may not be fired.
The studio reserves the right to refuse to fire work that is improperly constructed, glazed, labeled, made with unapproved materials, too thick, insufficiently dry, or otherwise considered unsafe for the kiln or other customers' work.
Ceramics are inherently unpredictable. Cracking, warping, glaze variation, glaze defects, kiln damage, breakage, or other unexpected results can occur during drying and firing. The Pottery Place cannot guarantee the outcome of any ceramic piece and is not responsible for unexpected firing results, lost items, or damaged work.
STORAGE
Standard Membership does NOT include storage. Lockers may be rented separately for $25 per week, subject to availability.
Premium Membership includes one standard member shelf.
Members are responsible for keeping their assigned storage area reasonably organized and for removing completed, abandoned, or expired work when requested.
Expired rented storage may be reclaimed by the studio. Items remaining after storage expires may be reclaimed, recycled, discarded, or otherwise handled at staff discretion, typically after approximately one week.
STUDIO ETIQUETTE & CLEANUP
Membership is a shared-studio experience. Members are expected to leave their workspace ready for the next person. This includes cleaning wheels, tables, tools, splash pans, glaze areas, and other equipment used during a studio session.
Members must share equipment and workspace respectfully and follow staff instructions regarding equipment use, cleanup, capacity, and studio operations.
Unsafe, threatening, excessively disruptive, or disrespectful behavior toward staff, guests, or other members is not permitted.
SAFETY
Closed-toe shoes are required in clay-working areas, and long hair must be secured when working around equipment.
Food and drinks are not permitted near pottery wheels, the glaze bar, kilns, or other designated work areas.
Guests may not use member workspaces, equipment, materials, or membership benefits without prior studio approval.
Members must promptly report damaged equipment, spills, hazards, or other unsafe conditions to a staff member.
Members agree to follow all posted safety procedures and reasonable instructions given by studio staff.
MEMBERSHIP IS INDIVIDUAL
Membership privileges, included clay, firing credits, storage, reservations, and other benefits are intended for the registered member and may not be transferred, shared, or used on behalf of another person unless specifically approved by the studio.
SUSPENSION OR TERMINATION
The Pottery Place reserves the right to pause, suspend, or terminate membership or studio privileges for unpaid balances, unsafe practices, misuse of equipment, repeated failure to clean workspaces, unauthorized materials, repeated policy violations, disruptive conduct, or other behavior that jeopardizes the safety or operation of the shared studio.
Termination or suspension resulting from a policy violation does not entitle the member to a refund.
PERSONAL PROPERTY & UNCLAIMED WORK
Members are responsible for their own tools, supplies, artwork, and personal belongings. The Pottery Place is not responsible for lost, stolen, misplaced, damaged, abandoned, or accidentally discarded property.
PERIODIC SHELF CLEARING
To keep our shared studio functional and prevent abandoned work from accumulating, member shelves and studio storage areas are cleared periodically, typically approximately every 45 days. Members are responsible for properly identifying their work and responding to any studio notices regarding shelf clearing.
Work that appears abandoned, is unidentified, has remained beyond the stated collection/storage period, or has not been addressed following a shelf-clear notice may be moved, reclaimed, recycled, or discarded at the studio's discretion. Members are encouraged to regularly check their shelf and take completed work home.
CHANGES TO MEMBERSHIP, POLICIES, AND PRICING
Studio hours, member hours, included benefits, firing procedures, storage policies, equipment availability, safety requirements, and other operating policies may change as the studio grows or operational needs change. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes whenever practicable.
The Pottery Place also reserves the right to change membership rates and other fees with advance notice to members. Continued membership after the effective date of a notified price change constitutes acceptance of the new rate. Members may cancel their membership in accordance with the cancellation policy before the new rate takes effect.
