Prep your piece

• Before you get started, be sure there's no dust on your piece. A dry or suuuper damp sponge can help get any excess dust you find off.
• Lastly, be sure to let your glazes dry fully between coats. Otherwise, we might end up with issues during firing such as pinholing or crawling.

Here's how tap a step when it's done

1. 1Create two rows of "w" shapes around the inner rim of the bowl using the flux bottle. The larger the swoop the more loose the flow will be; the smaller the swoop the tighter the flow. Note: one coat is plenty from the squeeze bottle; if using a liner brush, you'll want to achieve 3 coats.
2. 2Use a sponge dotter and #2314 (Black Lab) to create dots inside the "w" shaped swoops you've made. Note: Go for 3 coats of dots so we get full movement from the interaction between glazes.
3. 3Glaze the bottom 1/2 outside of your piece, including the foot (very bottom), with 2 coats of Black Engobe. Note: engobe is basically colored clay and has no "sticking" properties therefore we can paint the bottoms of stoneware pieces with engobes.
4. 4Glaze the entire inside and 1/2 of the outside of your piece with 2 coats of White Opal.
5. 5Glaze the entire inside and 1/2 of the outside of your piece with 2 coats of Sea Salt.Note: the crystal top coat really makes things move; you can cover up to the 1/2 way point of the outside of a piece if you like, but please don't paint below the 1/3 point of the outside to prevent the glaze from flowing off of the piece.
