Here's how tap a step when it's done

1. 1Using the Transfer technique, sketch your photo onto a piece of tissue with a pen to create a stencil.
2. 2Transfer the stencil onto your pottery with a washable marker.
3. 3Make two washes for each color. One should be 25% water, the other 50% water.
4. 4Using a fan brush, apply one coat of your lightest 2394 wash to the entire plate. This will be your background color.
5. 5Begin painting the portrait, the 2394 washes will be your highlights, the 2335 washes will be your mid-tones, and the 2309 washes will be your shadows. Work in layers, adding more paint to the darker areas. Tip: Keep your photo for reference, this will help guide your color choices.
6. 6Using any of your 50% washes, load up a med. round brush. Hold the brush high above the plate and gently tap it to create large organic shapes.
7. 7Using a liner brush and undiluted 2309, outline your initial sketch. This will add an illustrative style and insure the important shapes are seen.
8. 8Ensure there are no oils, chap-stick, or lipstick on your mouth. Apply a thin coat of 2335 to your lips and press them against the plate, this will leave behind a kiss mark.
9. 9Using a writer bottle with 2309, write both of your names and a date on the top. Add the plus sign at the top and work outwards from there.
