Pottery inventory management

Bisque, glaze and clay aren't the same kind of stock. Your inventory shouldn't pretend they are.

Sellable bisque, studio-use glaze, clay by the pound, mosaic boards, candle vessels — StudioConnect counts each the way a studio actually uses it, and reads your supplier's invoice so nobody types it in.

What pottery inventory management should do — and StudioConnect does

  • It reads the supplier's invoice

Upload the invoice. StudioConnect finds the supplier, every line, case packs and quantities — and asks you only about what it isn't sure of. Unknown is better than invented.

  • Supplier SKU rules

Your main supplier's bisque keeps its own SKU; another supplier's 3000 becomes BI3000 or CH3000. Paints and glazes keep their maker's codes (SC-, FS-).

  • Prices that can't be $0 by accident

New sellable pieces need a price before they're received — a suggestion from your margins, or one you type. Studio-use supplies can be $0 on purpose.

  • Receiving with a pull list

Pieces guests asked to hold print on a pull list as the box is received, so they're set aside before stock reaches the floor.

  • Between locations

One location has it, the other needs it: start a transfer, print the slip, and both counts move when it arrives.

  • Programs, not just items

Mosaic, stoneware, canvas and candle pieces route to their own spaces, with their supplies counted as studio use.

A day with it

  1. MondayThe Gare invoice arrives as a PDF. Forty-five lines read themselves; you check three.
  2. TuesdayThe boxes come. Receiving prints a pull list — two pieces are on hold for guests.
  3. WednesdayHamilton is out of the dragon mug; NorthShore has six. One tap starts the transfer.

Questions studios ask

Can StudioConnect import my supplier invoices?

Yes. Upload a PDF or spreadsheet invoice. StudioConnect reads the lines, understands case packs, matches your catalog and flags what's new or uncertain for you to check before anything is received.

Does it handle bisque from more than one supplier?

Yes. Pick your main supplier; other suppliers' bisque gets a short prefix so two suppliers' SKU 3000 never collide. Paints and glazes keep the manufacturer's codes.

Can customers ask us to hold a piece?

Yes. Staff record the request, StudioConnect reserves stock or watches for it on order, prints it on the pull list when it arrives, and tells the guest it's set aside.

Does it work across two studios?

Yes. Each location has its own counts, and staff can see which location has a piece and start a transfer between them.
